Chrome's First Time Jumping! Video!

Chrome's first time ever jumping. He did so great. He's so brave he barely hesitated at all. :D

Isn't he so cute?!

  1. I guess horses are more willing to jump for treats. I usually see someone swinging a rope at a horse's butt to get it to jump. A couple of years ago I put some stuff to jump in the round pen and lunged the horses. Of course, they kept veering in to the center to go around the jump at first. But then they eventually learned the jumping was kind of fun. The first time I rode a horse at a jump was by surprise and accident. There was a little log in the paddock, and I was riding Lostine around at the trot. I pointed her to go past the log, but she decided to jump it. I was pleasantly surprised that I instinctively knew how to shift my weight to keep my balance.

  4. He is so cute!

However, maybe not really his first time jumping given some of the mischief you have described when he is off on his own. Silly horse.

  5. Very true Mango Momma. He has jumped before, like the fence he jumped to get to Faran, but that was partially unsuccessful since he dragged his rear legs across the fence. He's jumped small things like a brush pile before while playing, but this is the first time he's jumped the same object several times in a row and his first time jumping for me. :D

  7. Love it!! Did you notice how quickly he learned to judge the height? the first time he really jumped high to clear it, but then he judged the height and went over with ease. Very smart horse, and his willingness to learn is quite evident. Great video!!

  8. I'm gonna try to answer your questions here. I think you're right that that mare has cushings but I was not in a position to say anything: ( I've seen a lot of people riding bitless - even in those Dr Cooks (?). No, I am not interested in this silly thing they call Orienteerungsritt - not the slightest. I just had to go to see if it was more than that. It's not even a sport, it's just a barn's fun day really. Now I have to find a sport (still). Yah almost all the barns I've seen have plastic weather strips and it's all about the Germans' fear of death by drafts. Or maybe the snow: ) I wonder so much about all the riding on concrete, (trotting!) and *living* on concrete, but it's the way it is. I wish someone would do a study! They do have weird trailers here and use those front facing ramps too. I have no idea why - are they avoiding teaching horses to back out? Cuz that's an important skill to learn. I hope to God to be able to afford a french or english import trailer, I've never seen a German horse trailer I'd want to own, they're all flimsy crrrrrrap! (Oh but they're super cheap, just liket hey look!)
