Chrome wears our new Aussie saddle! Video!

Oops I forgot to get still shots, so I grabbed a couple from the video.

Isn't he handsome? I think he looks great in it. And even if he doesn't get any taller (I know he will because he's only two and a half) I'll be totally fine with that because the stirrup sits right at his underline. :) That's a huge improvement over the ponies I rode as a kid with my toes hanging to their knees lol! I know this is totally a copycat post, but you knew I couldn't leave Chrome out hehe. Also there is something really exciting in the video!! Check it out.

Note: If the saddling is boring you can skip ahead to 5:00 to see the exciting part. :)

Yep, first time ever putting weight in a stirrup. Previously he's always been bareback and I just laid across his back. He has his ears back probably because it's uncomfortable having me mount from the ground (I know, I know, I should use a mounting block, but I don't have one; we're actually building one today!). I think he was awesome and I'm so proud of him. If you can't watch the video here is a picture. :)

I think he's going to be so easy to start. I've had Chrome since he was five months old and I spent a lot of time hugging his head, neck and barrel so I don't think he's at all claustrophobic. :) I can't wait for May!!

  1. He will be just fine!!! I started both my babies myself and also purchased them at young ages. So he will trust you and you already got him used to everything before hand, like I did also. Their ears also go back to pay attention behind him. I think he was more paying attention to you than making "bad", or "worried" ears. Have fun!

  2. Why wait til May? He looks big enough and willing enough.

  3. Fantastyk, there are two reasons. 1. He's in a funky growth stage right now where he's butt high and I don't want to stress his back since that's the last thing to finish growing (at around five years old - can't wait quite that long lol). 2. I have about six people who would kill me if I didn't let them be there for my first ride on him so we're making a big bonfire party out of Chrome's 3rd birthday. Not exactly a birthday party, but they will all get to be there to see me ride him then we'll have hot dogs and sit around the bonfire while we share stories. It will be a lot of fun. Everyone is bringing their cameras too so there should be lots of pictures. :D

Janine, that's true about the ears. He very well could have been just paying attention since he didn't seem stressed or anything. :)

  4. Congrats! That is so exciting, and he's such a good boy for standing still for Mom. You must feel exhilarated! It will be well worth the wait until spring, but at this rate he'll be ready to go for sure when that day does arrive. Well done.
