5 Days Until Our First Ride Countdown

Sorry I don't have time to go through picture right now because I need to go to bed, but I felt bad for bailing on the countdown!  Sorry guys!  I can't believe it's only five days away now.  I've been working my butt off getting everything ready for the big day.  :D  That's one reason I haven't posted.  The other reason is because I decided to stay at a friend's house and she doesn't have internet, but I'm back!

I don't want to dampen the excitement, but I would like to share with you something that just happened.  I was out in the yard talking with my husband and a couple of neighbors when two other neighbors came by on their horses.  They stopped to say hi and were asking about Chrome.  I told them that he turns three on Saturday and they asked who I was getting to break him in.  I said I was and you should have seen the looks on their faces!  He said they should come by and watch the show and then she said she was sure Chrome would be fine since he'd been worked with since day one.  Should I be offended?  Are they just being concerned or do they think I'm incapable of starting my own horse?  They don't even know me or my experience with horses!  Anyway we continued to talk about other things and they moved on, but I just don't know what to think.  I know you can't really answer my question because you didn't see their faces and didn't hear their tone of voice.  Maybe I'm just over analyzing it.  Maybe he was joking when he said they should come by and "watch the show", but if he was, why did she say he'd be fine?

Anyway I'm not going to let it bother me.  Chrome is a good boy and I've put a lot of work into him to prepare him for this day, so I'm not worried about it.  I guess we will just have to get out there and show them how awesome we are lol.  Anyway sorry I've been quiet.  :)

  1. I don't really know what they meant but don't let it bother you. Maybe they just expected him to be sent off to a trainer because he is so well bred. I expect your first ride to be a celebration but rather noneventful. You've worked a LOT with Chrome and I think he will readily accept you as his rider. It's all very exciting, isn't it?

I will probably just climb on Yalla's back one of these days, unplanned and unprepared. I don't think I can plan the exact day it will happen. Hopefully, somebody will be around to catch me if it goes south.

  2. You're probably right. :) I'll just forget about it. I think it's going to be really boring too and really exciting if that makes any sense lol!! I really don't expect any problems, but I'll be wearing my helmet and have my husband lead him just to be on the safe side.

When you decide to spontaneously ride Yalla can you just happen to have someone there with a camera???? Just kidding. :D

  3. I'm unfortunately used to people and their odd attitudes about horses and training. You've done a great job with Chrome so far so don't worry about them, in fact it's quite satisfying to prove them wrong! ;)

  4. LOL, it's just a common thing people say. Since MOST people do not break their horses themselves. They think all horses need to go to a trainer to be ridden for the first times. And yes, us natural horsemanship people have no problems, because we take the time it takes to start them! And not just throw a saddle on and ya hoo them around a pen or arena till they stop bucking!!! I started 2 horse now like you did and both never bucked once EVER! So apparently we are doing something correct. So ignore it and you will do awesome as always and have fun!!!!!!!!!!

  5. From what I have read on your blog, you have way more experience with horses than I do - and I started my mare, Riva. I was the first one to sit on her...and to this day (she turns 5 later this month) only 3 other people have rode Riva.
First time I sat on Riva - total non-event. You and Chrome will be great on his birthday ride!

  6. Just a thoughtless comment. I, for one, am excited for the videos and pictures, and if I were closed I would stop by "for the show" too. :)

  7. Don't worry about it - you will do fine - after watching you and him for over a year, I know you will do excellent.

Some people don't consider a horse trained unless a big name has done it. :D

  8. I maybe wouldn't invite them to watch the show. You will be nervous enough. Don't worry. Maybe they had a bad experience or they just never saddle trained a horse themselves.

  9. Whatever they were thinking during that reaction was just an opinion formed through their own experiences and had nothing to do with you. I was often met with a long pause each time someone asked who I was going to have train Gabbrielle, and I said I was going to do it myself. I think I rode her the first ten times, and then got thwarted by a series of personal problems and lameness issues until I gave up and sent her to a trainer simply because I came to the realization that I would never had the time to do it myself consistently. But she was a very good girl, and I know Chrome will be a very good boy.

  10. You know Chrome and if you sense you need help, I'm sure you will seek it. Can't wait. He looks gorgeous in this photo. Sebastian's mane does that near his ears too. I love it.
