A few pictures and an update on rehoming Faran.

These pictures aren't fantastic, but I had to share them.  First Chrome and Zep still love to play, although this was from several months ago before it got so hot.  I wish it wasn't blurry and that I hadn't cut his head and legs off, but I'm still excited to get such a cool shot.  Chrome make Zep look so tiny lol.

I finally saw Faran roll and managed to get this shot lol.

And a cute trotting picture of Faran.  He's so handsome!

We are still trying to find Faran a home and having NO luck whatsoever.  :(  I'm feeling very stressed about it because money is very, very tight right now with trying to build the house and we just can't afford to feed two horses and a donkey.  I wish there was just some way I could tell if people were lying.  I'm so afraid to trust someone and then find out he ended up in a slaughterhouse.  How do you know for sure?  We found a rescue that we got good reviews for and then after we took Faran we got a call from a neighbor because we put him in the wrong pen (they shared a driveway) and found out the guy ships them off for meat and the guy was in jail!!!!!!  Thank goodness he was in jail because we had time to go back and get Faran before something happened!  It was such a close call I am now terrified to trust anyone.  I meant to write about this before, but I was too upset.  :(  So I don't know what we're going to do with Faran.....

I'll update on Chrome tomorrow.

  1. Oh and what pisses me off about the supposed rescue is that they have their non profit thing, they rescue hundreds of horses, work with the police and have been in the newspaper multiple times..... how do they get away with this?? Of course I guess the neighbor could have been lying too, but the guy was in jail so my instinct said to get Faran out so that's what we did!

  2. It is too bad that a big name trainer, who specializes in problem horses wouldn't take him to use in a training video given that afterwards he got to keep the money for selling him.

  3. I know this might sound harsh, but I would have him euthanized. He would be tough if not impossible to rehome, esoecially nowadays, and if feeding him is a financial strain, it sounds like it's time. We all know how horses are glass-legged suicide machines, so I would putt him down now while he's fat and happy and healthy. It will totally suck and be emotionally draining, but it's far better than sitting up at night wondering if he's at a slaughterhouse or being mistreated.

  4. Nonprofits can turn ugly with the wrong people and it can be very, very difficult to flesh them out. The burden of proof is on the public and the records may be carefully held (lost, destroyed, omitted). At least you were tipped off, although it doesn't really change your current situation.

    Good luck.

  5. I can ask my sister. She has Clydesdales and works with rescue. I wonder if she could hold on to Faran temporarily? Maybe until you are on your feet?

  6. I am sure glad you got him out of there. I am so sorry you're struggling with Faran though. No easy answers, we have a real nice rescue out here, but I don't know if they are only local, I think so though, it's tough all over, that's for sure.

  7. I would unfortunately have to agree with Frizzle, if you are having issues with Faran, can't find a good home for him and money is tight, passing away happy and loved is better than meeting an unknown fate. That said, there is nothing wrong with trusting someone and making them sign a contract with penalties outlined if the first right of refusal isn't followed. Very important, if penalties aren't outlined than it is very hard to have anything done in court if the person doesn't offer him back.
Have you talked to more than one person about this rescue? If they rescue 100's of horses, work with police, etc, they sound legit and perhaps it is an unhappy neighbor?

  8. Have you tried this place? http://www.frogpondfarmdrafts.com/ You would have to try to find a cheap ride for him to get there, but they might help with that also! I would call anyway!! They're really nice and I follow them on facebook all the time. I wish I had my own place already, or lived closer. I would take him for you, for sure:) Keep up the great work!! You can also go to FUND ME.com and try to put up fund for horse hay?? Just a thought?? Have fun!!

  9. Another place I watch on facebook is. http://www.starryskiesequinerescueandsanctuary.com/id13.html Faran would need a ride also to this state if they were open? You can check out fleet of angles on facebook to. They help with free or low price travel for horses in need. J9

  11. I'm curious about Faran in that ... what is his background? Why is he a rescue? How dangerous is he and has he hurt any people. I understand he is sweet, but... Has a rescue tried to work with him before. I'd love a post on him, or perhaps you already have shared his background, exactly why he is "dangerous".

  12. Margaret, he's never been to a rescue. We "rescued" him from a bad trainer, not from an actual rescue organization. The trainer abused him and we think there may have been other abuse in his past. He's terrified of humans. He's learned to trust us, but if we look at him wrong or move too quick he spooks and runs away. It doesn't take much. The reason he's "dangerous" is simply because he's so big and unpredictable. If something scares him there is no way you can hold on to him or move out of the way because he moves so quickly. He seems to try to watch where people are, but he has run into me before....

  13. That is so upsetting. I am relieved you were able to get him back. Wish you lived in MA. We have a couple of nice farms that take in horses and find new homes for them. Good luck to all of you.
