It's Snowing!

We've been having icky, icy winter weather for days... that's why I haven't been taking pictures, but when the ice and rain turned to snow I had to get a few pictures.  I didn't get many and they aren't great because it was too cold to stay out for long.  It looks like all we will get is a light dusting on the ground, but it's going to be cold enough to stick around a while so I might try for more pictures later.... but I doubt it.  I've been cold all day and I just don't want to be out in it anymore than I have to.  I'm so ready for warmer weather.  I'm just not made for the cold lol.  Anyway, here are my cute boys.

Faran looks so much like a Friesian when he raises his head up!

Chrome's mohawk is getting so tall and cute, but it's laying over in the middle where his neck touches the hay ring.  :(  I wish we could afford one of the horse hay rings that they don't have to put their head under the bar instead of the cow version we have.  Oh well.  I will probably have to hog it again when summer gets here anyway.  For now I'll just trim it back down a little.  I LOVE how it's black at the roots and white at the tips.  Coolest mohawk ever!  :D

The funny thing is that in all of these pictures there are snow flurries coming down, but it doesn't show up from a distance.  It only shows up in the closeups like the one above, especially with the shadows behind him.

Chrome and I were hiding in the barn watching Zep.  This picture is from over Chrome's back.

 The snow on Faran's back.

Faran looks like a bobble head horse in this one hehe.

I walked all the way back to the house and then the snow really started to come down, so I zoomed the camera all the way in and got this last shot above.  It's blurry, but still cute!  He looks frosted hehe.

Well I'm going back to curl up in my electric blanket and wait for spring..... lol!

Evernote - Blog Backups

Is anyone else paranoid about losing your blog ever since Google Reader was discontinued?  I am!  I've been writing in Chrome's blog since I brought him home as a five month old colt almost four and half years ago.  That's a lot of stories and information that I don't want to lose.  I've been looking for a way to make a back up of Chrome's blog since then, but trying to save it page by page or copy it into a word document is time consuming and just about impossible!!  If it weren't for the pictures, it probably wouldn't be that hard, but I really like for the pictures to be with the post they belong to, instead of saved separately.  Lucky for me my mom told me about this really cool program called Evernote.  First I have to mention this is not a paid endorsement and I only just started using it today, but so far I really like it so I thought I would share a little about how it works.

Here is a screenshot of my progress so far...

If you enlarge the image you will see that I've put 153 posts into Evernote so far.  For the free version there is a limit of 60mbs uploaded each month.  For the paid version you get 1gig of upload each month.  I'm using the free version and with 153 posts I've only used 44.8MB which is 75% of my monthly allotment.  You guys know how many pictures I post, so it fills up pretty quick for me.  If you have a mostly text blog you can get a lot more uploaded each month than I can.  I'm not worried about it though because if I can upload 100-200 posts per month I should be caught up in no time.  Then it will be really simple to upload new posts each month.

The really cool part is it's so easy!!  They have a video tutorial on how to upload things into Evernote, but it's basically highlighting what you want saved (text and photos), copying it and pasting it into the notes.  So easy!!  There is no waiting on photo uploads or anything!  It's simply copy and paste.

Another really awesome feature is that you can choose to save it to their cloud system, which means it's stored online, so you can access it from any computer anywhere just by logging into Evernote.  There is also a share feature or some way that you can share it with other people, but I haven't looked into that since I'm just saving it for my own personal use.  I know a lot of people use it for businesses that need to share things between offices, but I don't really need that feature right now.  I thought I would go ahead and mention it anyway.

I'm pretty excited about it and happy with it so far.  It gives me peace of mind to know that if Blogger ever decided to close down (Google Reader closing down was a big shock to me!) or has a server crash or something I still have all of my blog posts saved in Evernote.  And even if Evernote decides to close down, it's highly unlikely they would both choose to do so at the same time lol.

So if you're paranoid about losing your blog, you should check it out.  It's really cool.  :D  Now back to work.  I still have 25% to use up, then I get to take a break for a month hehe.

P.S.  You can use Evernote for other things besides just blogs obviously.  My mom uses it for saving and organizing her cooking recipes and her knitting patterns because each note can be tagged and there is a search feature that makes finding things so easy.  :D

Tales of Trails

I was told about a new blog called Tales of Trails (here's the link http://tales-of-trails.blogspot.com/) by my blogging buddy over at How Sam Sees It (http://howsamseesit.blogspot.com/).  I'm so happy she told me about it because I already know I'm going to love it!  She write about her awesome and entertaining trail rides in the desert and shares great pictures of her adorable horses, the amazing wildlife and best of all wild horses!!  So go check it out if you have a second and say hi.  :D

We're having awful, icky, cold winter weather again here, so no new pictures sadly!  I was helping my dad work on screening in the porch around his shop buildings yesterday and Chrome was hanging his head over the fence nickering at me every time I walked by, acting so pitiful and lonely.  I finally took pity on the poor bored boy and let him out in the yard even though there really isn't much to graze on.  He was so happy!  He immediately checked the apple tree, but the apples are long gone, then he made his way over to the area where we've been spreading the hay seed that I sweep up out of the barn where we stored the hay.  It's still growing pretty green grass in the dead of winter and he loves grazing on it.  I don't let him graze for long since I don't know how high the sugar content is at this time of year, but it's a nice treat every once in a while.

When he got bored of grazing (because obviously the spoiled boy can't possibly be hungry) he started exploring the woods, so I brought him back to the yard (there are holes out there so I don't want him wandering around).  Then he decided the neighbor was soooo scary and started prancing, trotting and cantering around.  My dad laughed at him because Chrome was cantering across the yard and he saw me come out of the house so he cantered right up to me and stopped in front of me.  Crazy horse!  I think he was wanting to play hide and seek like we used to at the old house, but the ground was soft so I made him chill out and graze some more.  :)  I wish I'd had my camera, but my hands were full helping my dad with the porch.  You will just have to use your imagination hehe.
