Ride 105

Chrome got his hooves trimmed today.  My farrier has ridden Chrome once, bareback at the walk and a little trot for a few minutes last year, but this time I had him saddled up so she could see what his canter is like.  She loved it!  Chrome was very energetic and forward today.  He held his canter for the entire length of the driveway with her (he still falls out of it with me because I don't drive him with my seat apparently-so need lessons) several times and eagerly picked it up.  I'm so proud of how well he did!!!!  I don't know if she wants her pictures on the internet so I cut her face out of them (she was wearing a helmet!) so you guys could see how well he was moving.  These are low quality snapshots from cell phone video lol.

Look at him use his back and reach under himself!!
He is on the forehand a bit though because the front diagonal touched before the hind.
Oh well, he still looks good to me!

Holy trot Batman!

Hubby went inside and didn't get video of me cantering.  :(  I'll try to get one next ride.  Hopefully he'll be feeling just as enthusiastic then too.

The rest of the pictures are below.  I'm not sure how long I rode.  I rode ten minutes I think when she showed up and rode for ten or fifteen minutes, then we trimmed him and I rode him another ten minutes or so I think.  Altogether with riding, trimming and standing around talking he wore his saddle an hour and a half hehe.  He even wore it while being trimmed (took his bridle and stirrups off).

 Turd was pawing!

The only pictures of me riding hehe.

Going fleabitten ahhhh!!!!!!  Love those eyelashes though!

There isn't much more to say besides he was perfect, the weather was perfect, I love him, we had fun and I learned a few things (he can canter when the rider isn't afraid and hanging on his face!).  After she cantered him four times and he was trimmed I got back on because she wanted me to canter him, so I did and he picked it up and was fantastic.  He didn't hold it quite as long with me because I don't drive him forward... I just kind of sit there lol.  I did really good staying out of his face and not snatching the reins when he ducked his head.  He didn't crowhop at all.  So we are on our way.  I just need to pretend the crowhopping never happened and start trusting him more.  :D  Like I said, not much else to say except I'm happy!

    1. Thanks! Yes it's great to know that the problems we have with cantering are all me. It's easier (maybe) to fix me than him. :)

  3. he's getting so gray!!! i love it! sounds like a fun ride too! and i know what you mean about kinda just 'sitting there' rather than riding forward... my horse tricks me into taking my leg off too lol

    1. Yeah, the weird thing is he's not a super hot horse or anything so I have no idea why I chicken out about putting leg on him. Putting leg on would solve all sorts of problems lol. Forward, forward, forward!! Must chant it every ride!

    1. Thank you! Me too. It's officially my most favorite halter I have ever owned. I love it. It looks so cool against his color right now too. :D I'm excited about cantering yesterday. It feels like a huge accomplishment because I still haven't completely let go of my fear since the fall in December. We're making steps in the right direction. The warm temps are definitely helping!

    1. Thanks! Yes he's barefoot and has always been. He was way behind on his trim due to the weather, conflicting schedules and illnesses, but we will get his trimming back to normal now!

  7. wow your bridle is pretty, i've never seen a bridle quite like it. is that an F i see? is he really a full size? i like your bit too, the rounded ring instead of flat like mine. i see you missed two keepers, thought i wouldn't notice? *lol* do your reins match (are they braided)?

he looks so mature in the photos from this post. how fun that your trimmer wants to ride him. that's never happened to me.

    1. Hehe yeah I'm bad about not doing up all the keepers. :D Yep he's in a full size, although it's on close to the smallest settings so he could probably wear cob. I was given the bridle so I didn't choose the size. :) Yes the reins are braided too!! It really is a pretty bridle. I was shocked when a friend gave it to me for free.

Thank you! Yes she has wanted to ride him for years. She adores him!

    2. Except for the noseband! It's on it's loosest setting and there is only an inch or so of room, so he probably couldn't go smaller on the noseband unless I wanted to crank it tight (I don't).

  8. i like your plaid halter too, but i really wanna see chrome in dark red/burgundy. look how nice his coat looks against the shirt you are wearing in your header. i always resisted red on baasha but then i saw someone put a red bridle on him and had to admit it looked great. at least, when he turns lighter, i think chrome will have to try red. i'm such a girl.

    1. I might have to try burgundy on him. This is going to sound weird, but when I was a kid all of my stuff was hunter green and all of my twin sister's stuff was red/burgundy, so I guess I got used to that being her color, so I've never bought anything red. :)
