Frustrated

Chrome's skin is still a yucky mess. The first treatment seems to have healed his rear legs because there are no bumps and the hair is growing back in his bare patches. The fronts are still covered in bumps and scaps. It's only on his cannons, forearms and shoulders. It's not on the fetlocks, pasterns or his back. I gave him another bath with his soap and betadine rinse. I'll use the MTG as soon as he dries. I just can't figure out what this is! It looks like rain rot (referred to as dew poisoning when it's on the legs), but I've just never experienced it like this. Of course Chrome would figure out how to completely baffle me. He's so good at it hehe. I called the vet and I'm still waiting on a call back. I think the big problem is because we can't get anyone to brush hog the pasture. It's getting really tall and the dew is heavy in the mornings which keeps his legs wet . . . anyway I'll update when I know more. Sorry I've been so quiet.

  1. That is too bad. I am trying to remember the concoction I was given. Equal parts white vinegar, rubbing alcohol and betadine if I recall. It's messy but it worked. Maybe it would help? Could also use "Pete's Goo" which is equal parts of (generic) neosporin and athlete's foot cream. Good luck and stay in touch!

  2. How awful, I'm sure it's hard to see beautiful Chrome with blemishes on him. I am sure you will get this taken care of and all will soon be forgotten. I hope they mow that pasture. I have never heard of the term "brush hog" I'm assuming it means cut or mow or something :-)

  3. having issues with Rain Rot on Mares legs this year for the first time. Keep putting on MTG, and it seems to be helping, but it is not gone. Wishing you fast healing!

  4. Pippi's rainrot is mostly on her legs, but I also saw a bit on the base of her tail. With the MTG it is slowly improving, and the flakes are coming off. I make sure I gently remove any "flakes" before putting on more MTG. She seems to prefer I do that with just my hands, rather than with a brush. So when she is good and dry I just sort of rub it off. We really goop on the MTG too.
