More Art

This is my first time ever drawing with charcoal! It's so much fun!!! I need a lot more practice but so far I really like it!!!! If I decide to frame this I think I'll cut the bottom off a little. I messed up the proportions in his body a bit, but I still like it!

I fixed the shoulder!! It's still not perfect but I hesitate to do too much erasing and redrawing. Let me know what you think!

  1. After taking a break and then studying this again I finally figured out what I did wrong. The front of his body is turned more than the back of his body! Oops!

  2. That's still really good for your first time with charcoal! I suck at using it :)

  3. Thank you Jodi! I'm really excited about it because I've never used it, but it's fun! I like how it has a background and the shadows pop out of it. On graphite drawings the plain white backgrounds always bothered me, but I don't know how to draw scenery so I left them alone. I fixed the zebra's shoulder and posted an updated picture if you would like to check it out. I kept the old one for comparison too. :)

  4. across the street a lady is painting her dun icelandic (gandur) with black zebra stripes which supposedly helps trick horseflies into ignoring horses. gandur is that amazing color grey dun with a black dorsal stripe and leg stripes so adding black stripes makes him look awesome. i have to get pictures. she was very intent on proving to me that the color stick she used was safe for animals. probably lots of people critisized her. i was like, "no worries, i know that wax chalk. it's butt number wax for endurance horses!" but she was still like, "See, see?" anyway he looks a bit like your drawing.

hm, i bet my donkey would look awesome in zebra stripes...

  5. That is too funny Lytha!!! How long has she been doing it? I'm curious if it actually works. I've heard it said that the zebra's color works that way but I don't know if it's true because on the T.V. shows they still seem to have flies on them hehe. If it works maybe Chrome will have to live as a zebra once he's gray. :D Bellis would look really cute painted like a zebra!!
