Ride 35 & Pathetic Mane

We were busy working on our house again this weekend, but today the weather was just too gorgeous to pass up a short ride on Chrome!  My husband walked with us on foot for a short ride down the road, but he didn't have to grab the reins or anything.  Chrome was so good!  At the gate we paused for a look around, because he thought the neighbors still had horses across the street, but they were moved a few weeks ago.

He was very excited, but completely under control.  I never once felt like he would bolt or do anything dangerous, so I'm hoping solo trail rides will be in our future soon.  It was just a short ride to the neighbor's house where we stopped to chat for a few minutes.  Chrome was sooooo impatient while we were talking!!!  I need to work on his standing still again.  I think part of it was boredom and part of it was because he's so itchy from his sweet itch.  When he's moving he can ignore it, but when standing still all he has to think about is itching.  I can totally related.  The mosquitoes have been biting me like crazy this year.  He was walking circles, swinging his head all over the place and even tried pawing at one point!  I distracted him by making him walk through a mud puddle that he wasn't too excited about walking through lol.  We eventually went over it.  :)  The ride was around 27 minutes long, but most of it was standing around in the neighbor's yard.

When we got back and I turned him loose he threw himself at a tree and started scratching.  Notice his front hoof is off the ground to really dig his shoulder into the tree?  That's why he has sores on his shoulders.  I hope we can find a solution for his sweet itch before next summer.

Look under Chrome's belly at who decided to nose around while Chrome was busy scratching lol.

Look how exhausted he is because I rode him soooo hard lol.  Just kidding.  This is him trotting to his hay.

And now I have a decision to make..... what do I do with his mane??

It's worse than it was last year!!!  Should I just roach it??

Faran Pictures

Some of you may remember that we tried to place Faran with a rescue and it all went wrong because we found out the guy sent the rescue horses to slaughter.  Luckily we managed to get him back safely.  It took me a while to post about it and now I'm ready to post pictures (which I had forgotten about).  So check out gorgeous Faran!

First we got him all prettied up and then went to load him on the trailer..... and realized something had completely chewed up the wiring.  Fabulous.  So I tied him to the round pen and you can see what a good boy he was in the above pictures, standing all relaxed and patient while we fixed the wiring.

He eventually got bored and started yawning...

Then he got even more restless....  nice neck huh?

Then he tried pawing!!!  I've never seen him paw.  He only did it once.  Just picked it up and put it back down.  Such a cute, naughty boy.  :D

His tail sure is pretty!  It took us an hour to brush it out!  It's so thick and curly.

Then we took him to the supposed rescue and luckily we accidentally put him in the neighbor's round pen (they shared a driveway).  You can read the rest of the details in this earlier post http://rdxhorses.blogspot.com/2013/08/a-few-pictures-and-update-on-rehoming.html.

Here are the pictures of him in the round pen at the neighbor's (to the supposed rescue) place.

He is so GORGEOUS!  Look at that neck.  Can you believe how tiny he makes that Paint look?  The Paint is on slightly lower ground though I think.  The neighbor is a trainer.  Thankfully a kind trainer who called us back so we could come back and get him.  We got lucky.

I still think he's absolutely gorgeous!  Too bad he doesn't have the personality to go with his looks lol.  He's a sweet horse, but too skittish and sensitive for me.  Anyway one reason I'm posting is because I have a pretty good lead on a new home, but I don't want to go into details until it's a sure thing.  Just cross you fingers and pray for us if you're the praying type please.  :D

Ride 34

Isn't Chrome so cute?  He was intensely curious about the camera for some reason, which is why he has his adorable nose stretched toward the lens in this shot.  :D  And yes I know I forgot my helmet.... please don't yell at me....

It's still hot outside, but the humidity was down so it felt amazing outside!  I decided to hop on for a short ride.  It was only for ten minutes since it's been a while.  Chrome was being pushy and bratty.... vacation needs to end soon lol.  The huge horse flies were out too so that was probably part of his problem. After I walked him around some on the driveway (away from the apple tree that he is currently obsessed with because the ripe apples are falling and it smells soooo sweet!) he was paying attention so we trotted around a little bit.  Then we walked up on the porch, tapped on my brother's window and surprised him with smiles (Chrome did his smile perfectly) hehe.  He thought it was funny.  :)

We paused for the above shot and then I hopped off to give Chrome is supper hay.  It was fun!
