TOABH: 18 Before the 18th

The Owls Approve is hosting a unique, fun blog hop! There will be eighteen blog hops (one a week) before Archie's eighteenth birthday.  All of the blog hops will be about our horses.  I'm so excited and I can't wait to see the next one.  Her question this week is:

History of the Horse
Before you met, where was your horse?  Who bred him/her?  What do you know about his sire and his dam?  What do you know where he came from?  Tell me about the time before he had a trainer.

I think I have answered all of this in the blog in the very beginning, but this is a great way to share all of the information for my new readers.  :D

I think this was the first picture I saw of him.

I have shared how I found Chrome and why I bought him on my blog before, so now I'll share what I know about him before I got him.

Five months old.  Love the pink halter, can you tell she wanted a filly?

He was born on May 19th 2009. His mom is Beebee, a beautiful flea-bitten gray Arabian mare.  Beebee is the breeder's heart horse.  When she got the opportunity to breed to a Friesian stallion she chose Beebee because she was planning to keep the foal and wanted to pass on Beebee's amazing temperament.  She is a fantastic trail horse and so smart.  A lot like Chrome, so in other words, perfect.  :D

Here are pictures of his mom.  I have completely forgotten how old she is.  She's 14.3hh tall.  I don't know her breeding.  I tried to take pictures of her when I went to get Chrome, but she's a pocket pony and it was impossible to get far enough away for pictures.  I hope someday we can meet up for a trail ride together.

His sire is Hertog Jan v.d. Paddensteeg, a 2002 Friesian stallion.  Jan's sire is Brandus 345.  I got to meet Jan this year and he is absolutely gorgeous and so sweet!

If anyone wonders why the Friesian is my dream horse this is why!

 Gorgeous!

He is 16.1hh and is a total pocket pony!  :D  He loves people!

 Look at that mane!!

Sorry for the picture spam hehe.  Jan was imported from the Netherlands and was 1st premium at his Keuring.  He's also been shown to a USDF Reserve Regional Championship.  :D

I bought Chrome when he was five months old so there isn't much history that didn't include me.  :)  He lived in a huge field with his mom, the other mares and foals.  His breeder taught him to lead, tie, pick up his feet and to stand for fly spraying.  The only thing she didn't have time to do was trailer loading (the day I picked him up was his first time on a trailer and he walked right on!).  He didn't care for fly spray, but he was perfect for everything else.  She did a really great job with him.  He was perfect for the vet for having blood drawn for his coggins.  He was so big the vet thought he was older than five months old hehe.

That's all I can really think of... I don't like sharing my location on a public blog, although I have shared it with some people, so I can't really go into a lot of details about that.  I don't live near his sire or dam, but it's not impossible to get to them with a day of driving.  If you have any questions just let me know.  I can't think of anything else.  :)  Please join the blog hop!  It should be a lot of fun!  Thanks Beka for the fun blog hop!

    1. Thank you! He was an adorable baby. The breeder actually sent me a CD with all of his baby pictures when she sent his papers so it was a total surprise. :D

  4. I would kill for baby photos! I totally think a baby Archie would have rocked a pink halter, too. It's great that you got to meet the sire and amazing that you could one day trail ride with your horse's dam. Ugh. I would probably alternate between squeeing and crying.

    And thanks for participating! :)

    1. Hehe thank you! I wish you had Archie baby pictures too. It really is awesome. Having a friendship with Chrome's breeder and the owner of his sire is something new for me. Every other animal I've had I never kept in contact with the person I bought (or was given in the case of dogs) them from. It's really fun to share pictures of him with them as he grows and to know what his sire and dam are up to and how they are doing. It's like extended family!! I love it! Buying a horse from a breeder (as opposed to an individual) for the first time has been a really great experience for me. :)
