Mule Baby!

My friend was keeping some of her horses at a friend's (maybe acquaintance, not sure) house recently so we went out there to ride a lot. One of her mares had an adorable mule baby! It's a girl. So cute!!! And a big mover. She has a huge trot. I wasn't able to get any good pictures, but I did get a short video. It's not great, but I put it in slow motion so you can see it. :) Oh and please excuse the typo. I promise I can spell, I'm just tired lol.

Anyway, sorry I haven't been posting. Been feeling unmotivated I guess. I do want to mention that Chrome's birthday party/first ride has been moved back to May 19th. Yay!!! I'm beyond excited. :D

  6. hi, i wanted to respond to your comments here about baasha and bellis. baasha will be 27 in a few days. he didn't grey out quickly but i don't have progression photos cuz who had digital cameras in the early 90s?: ) (my photo books are in america.) wish i could do that for you though! his parents were both grey, and his mane stayed dark grey/black into his 20s.

  7. clicker training - i have done it for years but mostly for targeting and fetching. i really want to teach bellis fetching because she's so mouthy. i am poking her hip to get her to move over repeatedly, upping the pressure until i'm basically drumming on her as hard as i can with my fingertips and physically shoving her over, and as soon as she moves at all she gets lots of praise. i can tell she just doesn't see why she has to do this so she resists. same with backing up but that is going better. i don't have to escalate the pressure nearly as much. i wish there was something i could use that escalates - when i've used a hoofpick after she ignores my fingers, it does nothing! tough hide huh? baasha would leap if i pushed a hoof pick into his skin! i have spent so much time on youtube and at donkey farm websites tryign to find training tips and it's all general, or theoritical, i cannot find any actual step by step lessons. have you? the morning bray and 7msn don't seem to train their donkeys so i'm hesitant to ask. they certainly never mention it and i would think it would be mentionable.

  8. oh, we also taught baasha to shake hands (both sides!) with clicker training. so cute! even my husband goes out there and does it, it's their thing. it's adorable to have a horse see you and offer it's "paw" immediately for a treat (what he only does for my man because that's what they mainly do together). aarene taught fiddle to "look away" because she was pushy, what a clever thing to do. so baasha offers a hoof, and fiddle politely curls her neck around saying "am i cute?" to get a treat. wonderful! i hope to teach bellis something like this.

affectionate she is - way moreso than baasha, who's always been kind of cold. yesterday i stood at the far end of the pasture and baasha saw me but just kept grazing, of course, and as soon as bellis saw me she came right to me. i have to admit that is really nice. she got lots of rubs for that; )
